Exclusive Interview With Wakfu

Posted August 1st, 2008 by Padma "LadyLotus" Fuller

Ten Ton Hamster was able to catch up with Sergio dos Santos, the International Marketing Asistant, to Wakfu to get an idea of how the game is coming along. We wanted to know what was happening in Beta and what cool things there were to look forward to. Check out the details below!

Interviewer: Padma "LadyLotus" Fuller, Editor/Site Lead
Interviewee: Sérgio dos Santos, International Marketing Assistant

1. Wakfu is currently in closed beta, how is the game coming along?

Well, it’s going well. Thanks to players’ feedbacks, we’ve fixed most of the bugs and we are progressively implementing remaining features. We have a particularly look on their advice and comments and we think we are very soon of the open beta release.

2. What types of changes, if any, have been implemented as a result of Beta feedback?

Thanks to the beta feedback, we implemented three changes in Wakfu Beta:
First, the entire graphic layout has been revised and improved. Then, we added new dungeons because it was a real demand of our players. Finally, we change the spell system and the characters evolution system. Now, the more you use a spell, the more powerful it will become. With that system, spells will be up to 100 levels. Focusing on one branch of spell will makes your character specialist on one type of element. However each character will have its own experience level up to 200. We decided to keep a level system in order to create “links” between the different universe of Wakfu, DOFUS and Dofus-Arena.

3. There are a lot of character classes in Wakfu. How have you seen the classes grow and change in Beta? Will we see some changes added in for launch?

We will up to 12 classes of characters in Wakfu. For the moment, we are working on each of them to give them a new look. We are about to release next week new features about all the characters classes, so stay tunes to Wakfu website!

4. Can you tell us a little about the NPC AI you are working with? It sounds very interesting.

Yes, that’s one of the features we really enjoy. We wanted a game focused on the players, without NPC and that the reason we created new type of quest, called “Dynamic challenges”. It aims at entertaining players all the time so that there’s always something for them to do in the World of Wakfu. These challenges are selected in a semi-random list and are launched only when several conditions are met.
Each challenge is timed which means that you’ll be granted a few minutes to complete it and to get the best result possible. You can only do one challenge at a time.

The game will also have a complex political system where elected players will act as governors on the different islands, and will have to decide for the future of their islands, and seek the well being of their citizens.

5. What are your plans for launch? Is there a working time line? Are you meeting your goals?

Despite the necessary delays due to beta-testers feedbacks, we aim to launch Wakfu Animated Series and Wakfu MMO at the same time, which means, fall 2008. Wakfu release will provide all the features of a MMO including the creatures’ ecosystem. All advanced features will arrive gradually like any other MMO.
